Things I noticed immediately when I arrived back in Sydney for a quick visit, which I guess says a lot about what’s different in Paris: Birds. Lots and lots of birds. How did we get so many? So many different types? It feels like the only thing I can hear is chirping. Many many thanks to [...] The first week of every month (not sure exactly which day) the air raid sirens are tested. Freaks me out every time. Frenchies are obsessed with eating things that are “crunchy” (“crostillant”), like biscuits, chips, snack foods, etc. They LOVE anything that resembles a “crumble” (yep, they use the English word) which must also be “crostillant”. [...] Saw this article today and thought it was interesting in that it summarised some of the issues bubbling to the surface in France, but was a bit peeved that they didnt explain in more detail why there is a problem, and also, give an opinion as to whether the proposed solutions will actually have any [...] Many thanks to Conde Nast Traveler. FRANCE Absolutely verboten: Talking money. Wages are almost never a topic of conversation, even in vague terms. Any long conversation about prices of real estate, schools, etc., is probably not a good idea. Radioactive: Joking about France’s surrender to the Germans during the war—not really a laughing matter.
