Making comparisons from the opposite direction – the view of Paris from Sydney

Things I noticed immediately when I arrived back in Sydney for a quick visit, which I guess says a lot about what’s different in Paris:

  • Birds. Lots and lots of birds. How did we get so many? So many different types? It feels like the only thing I can hear is chirping. Many many thanks to the dozens of naughty cockatoos that greeted me at the airport yesterday, hanging off the metal grill of the carpark and generally being raucous – what a cack!
  • Fresh air. I dont think I ever thought of Sydney as having fresh air. But it really smells like beautiful trees and earth and nature. And cooler.
  • Space. You really can see so much more of the sky in Sydney. I’m noticing the large spaces between buildings, across roads etc
  • Brightness. The light in Sydney really is blindingly bright. Turbo-charged nuclear-powered retina-scorching sunlight.

This is interesting… with my impending homecoming I was wondering what you would notice. Ah, I love Europe with all my heart – but I am looking forward to seeing ‘home’.

    Hahaha!! Again welcome back home!

I noticed that when I got back to Adelaide also! I was walking into the city one day from my inlaw’s house and as I got into the city I’d had to walk past the parklands surrounding Adelaide city and I’d noticed that there was a lot of rosellas flying about and that made me smile. Before flying back into London in late October I was just commenting to Gorilla that the air around our house is so sweet smelling, especially so in the morning and in twilight. Good stuff!
